Meet Our Instructors

Andy Bower is currently the Head PGA Golf Professional at the San Marcos Golf Course in Chandler Arizona, with over 20 years of golfing experience. Andy graduated from the Golf Academy of America in 2014 and became a PGA member in 2021. He is also a district director for the Southwest PGA, where he manages Junior golf tournaments during the summer. Andy entered the US Army in 1980 and retired in 2003 after serving 23 ½ years. While serving as a Military Police Officer, he had been stationed all around the world during his tour of duties. He has also been the lead escort for a US Presidential motorcade and was a personal bodyguard for a general during Operation Iraq in 2003. Andy is married to Carolyn Jenkins-Bower and enjoys traveling, fishing, teaching golf and spending time with family and friends.

Steve Schyberg has been working at the San Marcos Golf Course since 2018 and has been a member of the PGA for over 25 years. He is also a Certified Fitter for both Ping and Titleist. Steve is originally from Upstate New York and relocated to Arizona in 1989. Since then, he has been the Head Golf Professional at many golf courses here in the Valley, including Orange Tree Golf Club, Ken McDonald Golf Course, Whirlwind Golf Club, and the Country Club at DC Ranch. Steve has been married to Terri Schyberg for over 29 years and they have two daughters, Erica and Victoria. He enjoys golfing, landscaping, and spending time with his family, friends, and four dogs.

Rick has been a volunteer at San Marcos for the past 3 1/2 years and joined First Tee and the Junior Prep tour tournaments in 2021. Coaching youth sports has always been Rick's passion over the years, having started back in 1985! Along the way, he's coached at the junior and senior high school levels and also coached youth (and adult) tennis in Georgia for 10 years before moving to Chandler in 2018. He looks forward to continuing with the First Tee at San Marcos!
